30 refugee families accommodated in their new apartments in Sremska Mitrovica

08.07.2020. On Wednesday 08.07.2020, the keys to 30 newly constructed apartments were presented to refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.  The apartments were built within the scope ‘Sub-Project 5) of the Regional Housing Program.

No ceremony was held due to the present situation regarding the Coronavirus, as also the government measures which have been instituted in response to COVID19.  In full compliance with the prescribed epidemiological measures, the keys to the apartments were handed over in the presence of the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, Mr. Vladimir Cucic and the Deputy of the President of the Municipality of Sremska Mitrovica, Mrs. Svetlana Milovanovic.

The Regional Housing Program is a joint, multiannual program being undertaken by the Republics of Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and aims to provide durable housing solutions to the most vulnerable refugee families living within the region.  It is being implemented with the support of the OSCE, the UNHCR and the Development Bank of the Council of Europe and is funded primarily through donor funds; the largest donors being the European Union, followed by the United States of America, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxemburg, Spain, Cyprus, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
