On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of signing of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees of the United Nations, a panel discussion was held in the National Assembly, organized by the UNHCR Office. The meeting was attended by National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucic, UN Assistant Secretary General and UN Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees for the Protection Gillian Trigs, UNHCR Representative in Serbia Francesca Bonelli, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Mateja Norčič Štamcar, as well as other representatives of relevant domestic and international institutions and organizations.

The Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, Vladimir Cucic, emphasized that Serbia has a very long tradition of the reception of refugees, long before the Convention, and that our country has applied this humane experience several times in its recent history. The challenges that have been posed to Serbia in the last 30 years are very big and serious, but Serbia's response is also serious. The process of integration of refugees, both those from the former Yugoslav republics and those granted international protection, is one of the key challenges for our country, and our country is recognized as a serious and reliable partner, for both individual partners and the international community, in solving this global problem, said Commissioner Cucic.
