Address by Commissioner Vladimir Cucić to the Global Refugee Forum

Address by Commissioner Vladimir Cucić to the Global Refugee Forum

16.12.2021.

Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucić participated in a high-level meeting of officials at the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva on December 15, 2021, organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. In his online address, Commissioner Cucić reminded the participants of the Forum that the Republic of Serbia, at the last session of the GRF, in December 2019, undertook obligations to improve the position of refugees in our country. These commitments concern the compulsory education of refugee children, the efficient and effective use of funds for refugee integration, facilitated refugee access to the labor market, the improvement of information exchange and early warning systems, and support and assistance to local refugee integration communities. The Commissioner emphasized that all these obligations are either fulfilled or very close to final fulfillment.

Cucić emphasized that the Republic of Serbia has achieved great success in this field, although the number of persons who have been recognized as refugees (ie who have received international protection) is really small - about 200 people since 2008. Nevertheless, Serbia has extensive and rich experience in the integration of refugees and displaced persons, and is ready to continue working in this direction, in cooperation with international partners, in order to contribute as much as possible to the common goal of all participants in the Global Refugee Forum - reducing refugees at the global level.
