Assistance delivered to returnees to Croatia

15.07.2021.

In the cultural centre in the village of Čovac, near Okučani, on 15 July, 63 agricultural machines were distributed to returnees from Serbia: trimmers, chainsaws and motor cultivators, a donation from the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with the Serbian National Council.

The value of the donation provided by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia is 2,783,500.00 dinars without VAT.

The territory covered by the competition is Brod-Posavina County.

This is just one of the types of assistance that the Commissariat provides to our returnees to the Republic of Croatia during the year, in terms of their economic empowerment. We are working to make their stay in Croatia easier and to ensure that those who return can live in dignity.

The Commissariat provides four types of assistance during the year. In the spring, we distribute seeds for cultivating crops, we donate beehives for those who are engaged in beekeeping, small agricultural machines, and by the end of the year, a shipment of home appliances will be distributed.

Assistance is provided in all returnee areas and in all counties where returnees live.

For someone who needs home appliances or who can develop their beekeeping business or cultivate their garden, this is a very important support because help in economic empowerment, apart from having a roof over one’s head, is the most crucial.

The Commissariat plans to continue providing assistance to returnee communities in the Republic of Croatia in the coming years.

According to Goran Nogić, who participated in the distribution, most of the machines remain in Okučani, while some will be sent to Nova Gradiška, as well as to the municipalities of Stara Gradiška and Dragalić.

“That help means a lot to people, they are on the brink of poverty, they do not receive any aid and they feel rejected. They have previously participated in actions of arranging cemeteries, areas around churches or partisan monuments, and it is certain that they will be involved again.”

Five of the donated agricultural machines will be sent to the villages in the municipality of Dragalić, and that will mean a lot to the beneficiaries.
