Today, on 25 June 2021, we organized the ceremony of handover of keys to 12 apartments for refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia, who reside in the municipality of Čajetina. The apartments were built under Subproject 5 of the Regional Housing Program in the Republic of Serbia (RHP).

Financial resources for the construction of these 12 apartments were provided mostly from the donor funds of the Regional Housing Program, and in a lesser part from the budget of the Municipality of Čajetina.

The event was attended by Vladimir Cucić, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Milan Stamatović, Mayor of Čajetina, Thomas Lee, representative of the United States Embassy, Dušan Kovačević, director of the Public Sector Project Management Unit, and representatives of other local and international agencies and the beneficiaries.

Commissioner Cucić stated that the refugees came to an area where good people live.

"Let inside your new homes everyone and everything barring suffering" Cucić said.

The Regional Housing Program is a joint multi-year program of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia, which aims to provide permanent housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region. It is implemented with the support of the OSCE and the UNHCR, and is funded by the European Union, which is the largest donor, but also by the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
