Ceremony of handover of keys to six apartments for refugees in Kučevo, within the Regional Housing Program in the Republic of Serbia

30.06.2021.

On 29 June 29 2021, keys were handed over for the building with six apartments intended for refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia, residing in the municipality of Kučevo. The apartment building was built in Kučevo, within Subproject 9 of the Regional Housing Program in the Republic of Serbia (RHP).

Financial resources for the construction of these six apartments were provided mostly from the donor funds of the Regional Housing Program, and to a lesser extent from the budget of the Municipality of Kučevo.

The event was attended by Vladimir Cucić, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Nenad Mikić, Deputy Mayor of Kučevo, Dušan Kovačević, Director of the Public Sector Project Management Unit, as well as representatives of other local and international organizations and beneficiaries.

“There are no small and big buildings, just as there are no small and big refugee stories. Six apartments in Kučevo are just as important as 60 in Loznica, or 270 in Novi Sad” - said Commissioner Vladimir Cucić, wishing the beneficiaries to live in these apartments for a long time and in good health.

The Regional Housing Program is a joint multi-year program of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia, which aims to provide permanent housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region. It is implemented with the support of the OSCE and the UNHCR, and is funded by the European Union, which is the largest donor, but also by the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
