Cucić: This Center is an example of good cooperation between the local community, state institutions and the Delegation of the EU

Today, the Commissar for Refugees and Migration, Vladimir Cucic, representative of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, Nikolas Bizel, and the mayor of Kikinda, Pavle Markov, visited the reception center in Kikinda. On this occasion, Commissioner Cucic assessed that the Center "is an example of good cooperation and synergy of the local community, state institutions and the EU Delegation".

Cucic said that about 60 children are involved in all forms of education while 50-60 members of families are doing their best to demonstrate gratitude for everything they received in Serbia.

"We have several problems, the same as for the rest of the citizens of Kikinda, the problem of drinking water, wastewater, to boost electricity, but it is good that there are no major and significant problems," Cucic emphasized.
Nikolas Bizel said that "Serbia’s response to migration challenges would not be possible without the significant contribution of municipalities and cities where the centers are located," and underlined that "the Union supports Serbia in its efforts to provide adequate services since the beginning of the increased influx of migrants."

"Serbia may be proud of the manner it has been accepting and integrating migrants.  As a state that seeks to become a member of the EU, it deserves to feel proud of the way it has welcomed the migrants," Bizel said.

The Mayor of Kikinda, Pavle Markov, said that the EU donation to the reception center is very significant. "A children’s playground and a new kitchen were built, lighting and video surveillance were set up," Markov said. He added that there are a large number of children in the Center and the preschoolers are going to preschools in Kikinda, while the next step is the inclusion of schoolers in the regular education system.
