Commissioner Nataša Stanisavljevic met with Soufiane Adjali, newly appointed UNHCR representative in the Republic of Serbia
01.03.2023.Commissioner Nataša Stanisavljević spoke today with Soufiane Adjali, the newly appointed representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Serbia. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Svetlana Velimirović as well as Mirjana Milenkovski on behalf of the UNHCR.
Most of the discussion was regarding current migration situation in Serbia as well as the co-operation between UNHCR and the Republic of Serbia in providing support and assistance to refugees and asylum seekers.
In the coming days Mr. Adjali plans to visit several reception and asylum centres managed by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia and learn about the ways of care for the beneficiaries who stay in those centres.
The Commissioner thanked the guests for the visit, welcomed the new UNHCR representative and expressed her confidence in the continuation of the successful co-operation and support of the UNHCR on issues of long-term care for displaced persons in the Republic of Serbia, both refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia as well as internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija.
Mr. Adjali expressed his commitment to further strengthening the long-standing co-operation between the two institutions for the welfare of refugees and other forcibly displaced people in the country.
