In Bac, four refugee families received houses with a garden in the countryside

Today, 3 March 2023, four purchase contracts for countryside houses with a garden were signed and delivered in Bač to the refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia who reside in that Municipality.

Funds for the purchase of countryside houses with a garden were provided from the Fund of the Regional Housing Programme, Sub-Project 7 which is implemented in Serbia by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, and the largest donor is the European Union.

The event was attended by Dušica Popović, Assistant Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Steva Panić, President of the Municipality of Bač, Nikola Vuletić, President of the Migration Council, Ivana Modić, Municipality of Bač Trustee, as well as the Beneficiaries.

“Today is an important day for these four families who finally welcomed their home where they can create new moments and memories together. The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration continuously takes care of refugees and displaced persons. So far, 383 families have been supported in the Municipality of Bač, 100 families through economic empowerment, and 283 through housing solutions of which, thanks to the donations made through the Regional Housing Programme 72 housing solutions for refugee families were awarded. During 2022, within the Framework of this Programme, 766 housing solutions were provided for the refugee families namely 118 packages of construction materials, 69 mobile homes, 88 houses with a garden in the countryside and 491 apartments said Dušica Popović, Assistant Commissioner.

The Regional Housing Programme is a joint recurrent Programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia which aims to provide permanent housing solutions to the most vulnerable refugee families in the Region. It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, the UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank and it is financed with the funds from the European Union which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
