In Čačak keys to 25 newly built apartments were handed over to refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia

Today 27 April 2023 in Čačak keys to 25 newly built apartments intended for refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia were handed over. The apartments were built as part of the Regional Housing Programme, Sub-Project 9.

The total area of the building is 1,622.00 m2 to the value of € 842,021.97. The Occupational Permit was issued on 31 March 2023.

The event was attended by Nataša Stanisavljević, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Milun Todorović, Mayor of Čačak, Gerhard Salzer, Representative of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, Dušan Kovačević, Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit, Representatives of other State and International Organizations and Institutions, and others.

“As part of the Regional Housing Programme, which was established with aim of providing housing for approximately 7,000 people, a total of 6,951 housing solutions have been allocated to the Beneficiaries thus far while in Čačak 46 housing solutions have been allocated 37 of which are through the Regional Housing Programme. Today we handed over the keys to 25 families from Čačak. The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia will continue, with support of our Partners, to implement the Regional Housing Program in order to ensure decent and permanent housing for all vulnerable families who had to leave their homes. This initiative is part of the efforts to provide refugees and displaced persons from the Region with an adequate home and improve their quality of life, we expect that in the coming period we will provide housing for approximately 1,500 more people”, said Commissioner Stanisavljević.

The Regional Housing Programme is a joint recurrent Programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia which aims to provide permanent housing solutions to the most vulnerable refugee families in the Region. It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, the UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank and it is financed with the funds from the European Union which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
