Today, on April 22, 2021, in Indjija, contracts for the purchase of 15 rural houses with accompanying gardens were ceremoniously handed over to refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia with residence on the territory of that municipality. The houses were purchased within the Regional Housing Program (RHP) in the Republic of Serbia, Subproject 9.

   Funds for the purchase of these houses were provided from the donor fund of the Regional Housing Program, whose largest donor is the European Union. The value of the donation for each house individually is 11,000 euros.

   The ceremony was attended by Svetlana Velimirović, Deputy Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, Vladimir Gak, Mayor of Indjija, Duško Ćutilo, Director of the Provincial Fund for Refugees, Displaced Persons and Cooperation with Serbs in the Region, Brigit Kuhar, Program Manager at the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, Ivana Jelic, Assistant for Permanent Solutions at the UNHCR Mission in Serbia, Stefan Almehagen Sandstad, Second Secretary of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Serbia, Jovan Lazarov, Head of the Office of the Director of the Public Sector Project Management Unit d.o.o. and others.

   "Through the Regional Housing Program, more than five and a half thousand refugee families have been provided with housing so far, and funds have been provided for another two thousand refugee families who are not able to solve their housing issue on their own," said Svetlana Velimirovic, Deputy Commissioner for Refugees and Migration.

   The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration has so far provided housing and donations to more than 450 refugee families in Indjija, who came to this town due to the wars in the early 1990s.

   The Regional Housing Program is a joint multi-year program of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia, which aims to provide permanent housing solutions for the most vulnerable refugee families in the region. It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank, and is funded by the European Union, which is also the largest donor, as well as the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
