In Zrenjanin keys to 25 newly built apartments were handed over to refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia
13.04.2023.Today 13 April 2023 in Zrenjanin keys to 25 newly built apartments intended for refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia were handed over. The apartments were built as part of the Regional Housing Programme, Sub-Project 9.
The total gross area of the building is 1,665.00 m2to the value of € 863,878.11. Construction lasted about a year, and the Occupation Permit was issued on 23 March 2023.
The event was attended by Nataša Stanisavljević, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Simo Salapura, Mayor of Zrenjanin, Gerhard Salzer, Representative of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, Soufiane Adjali, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Dušan Kovačević, Director of the Public Sector Project Implementation Unit, Representatives of other State and international Organizations and Institutions, and others.
“As part of the Regional Housing Programme a total of 6,925 housing solutions have been allocated to Beneficiaries thus far and in Zrenjanin 403 housing solutions have been allocated, of which 129 are through the Regional Housing Programme. This is a very important day for these families who have finally welcomed their new home. I wish you to be filled with happiness and love in your new apartments, and to live only good moments and create new memories with your families. In this way, we show that the Republic of Serbia and the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration care about refugees and these families from Zrenjanin are starting an important step towards a safer and better life today. In the coming period we are actively working on securing all the necessary permits and documentation in order to solve housing issue for families in Čačak, Arandjelovac, Vrnjačka Banja, Novi Sad - Veternik, Pančevo, Vrbas, Ovča and Pećinci. In total, by the end of the year we expect to award near 500 housing units to the refugee families”, said Commissioner Stanisavljević.
The Regional Housing Programme is a joint recurrent Programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia which aims to provide permanent housing solutions to the most vulnerable refugee families in the Region. It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, the UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank and it is financed with the funds from the European Union which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
