Invitation to participate in the auction of paintings for the victims of the earthquake in Banija

In the exhibition space of the National Bank of Serbia (entrance from Svetozara Markovića 51) on Friday, July 2, starting at 6 pm, an auction of works of art by Serbian artists will be held to help the people of Banija, victims of December 2020 earthquake, entitled "For Banija",

At the initiative of the association of refugees operating in Serbia, headed by the Serbian Cultural Association Zora - Knin; The Association of Banijas, Descendants and Friends of Banija; The auction fraternity of the Krk Monastery, the Association of Serbs from Croatia and the Association of the Bells of Metohija, organized an auction exhibition of works of art by Serbian artists on June 24. Fine artists of Serbia donated 124 works of art for this humanitarian action, and all funds raised from the sale of works of art, paintings and sculptures will be sent to the Diocese of Gornja Karlovačka, which gave a blessing for this humanitarian action, and are intended to help the most vulnerable families in Banija.

In December last year, a devastating earthquake hit the Republic of Croatia, especially the area of ​​Banija. Apart from the human casualties whose losses are irreparable, the material damage and destruction are of enormous proportions. We remind you that the area has always been inhabited by Serbs, who in recent years have returned to their homes, rebuilt them, and now they are completely destroyed again. There are still no official data about the total damage, but it is known that many people lost their property, as well as that many sacral buildings were damaged.

Half a year after the earthquake, many people are still living in temporary accommodation, in containers or with friends. Many have returned to Serbia and are waiting for reconstruction of their homes. In the first days after the earthquake, the Republic of Serbia sent significant assistance to the Republic of Croatia. The Commissariat has earmarked financial assistance for returnees affected by the earthquake in accordance with its capabilities in the amount of 11 million RSD, for the purchase of seeds for crop growing, small agricultural machines, beehives and home appliances. Many refugee associations in the Republic of Serbia have focused their activities on collecting aid for the victims. Unfortunately, help is still needed.
