Keys to 15 newly built apartments in Lučani were handed over to refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia

Today, 16 December 2022 keys to 15 newly built apartments intended for refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia were handed over. The apartments were built as part of the Regional Housing Programme, Sub-Project 5.

The total gross area of the building is 943.74 m² to the value of €485,822.26. The Occupation Permit was issued on 30 September 2022.

The event was attended by Danijela Nedić, Assistant Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Milivoje Dolović, President of the Municipality of Lučani, Gerhard Salzer, representative of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, Jovan Lazarov, Deputy Director of the Public Sector Projects Implementation Unit, representatives of National and International Organizations and Institution, and more.

"The Regional Housing Programme in Serbia aims to provide housing for approximately 7,000 of the most vulnerable families from the territories of former Yugoslavia who have the status of refugees. As part of this programme a total of 6,844 housing solutions have been allocated to the Beneficiaries thus far. In Lučani a total of 46 families received support through both Budget and Donor funds with the aim of providing housing or economic empowerment of which 17 housing solutions stem from the Regional Housing Programme. The Occupation Permit has been secured for a newly built residential building on the territory of local Self-Government district Šabac and by the end of the year we expect to provide housing for another 25 families. The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia continues to work on improving the living conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons in the coming year" said Danijela Nedić, Assistant Commissioner.

The Regional Housing Programme is a joint recurrent Programme of the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia which aims to provide permanent housing solutions to the most vulnerable refugee families in the Region. It is implemented with the support of the OSCE, the UNHCR and the Council of Europe Development Bank and it is financed with the funds from the European Union which is also the largest donor, the United States, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
