Steering Committee of the Regional Housing Program Meeting

Today the Republic of Serbia hosted the Steering Committee of the Regional Housing Program.

The meeting was opened by Ivica Dačić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Nataša Stanisavljević, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration.

 

The Regional Housing Program is part of a greater process of Cooperation between Countries in the Region - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Croatia, Montenegro and Republic of Serbia to resolve the refugee crisis and overcome its consequences.

 

As a result of the ongoing Project over the past 10 years a total of 10,000 housing allocations have been made regionally. In accordance with the mandate, the Regional Housing Program is implemented by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia with the technical support of the Project Management Unit in the Public Sector.

 

The Meeting was dedicated to the progress of the Regional Housing Program Implementation, open questions, media events as well as all upcoming activities of four Partner Countries considering that the completion of such an important program in the Region is coming to an end.

 

The total value of the Regional Housing Program in the Republic of Serbia is €165 million of which €134 million are Donor funds while €31 million is the National contribution.

Out of the planned 7,570 housing units, its larger part or 89 % has already been delivered to the Beneficiaries.

With the remainder, which the Beneficiaries will receive by the end of the Implementation of the Program and includes the purchase of 90 apartments in Belgrade, approximately 7,600 of the most vulnerable refugee families will be taken care of within this significant Program.
