The 25th session of the Working Group for Solving the Problem of Mixed Migration Flows was held at the Palace of Serbia today, at which the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, Vladimir Cucic, informed the members of the Group in detail about the situation in Serbia in the field of migration.

The session was chaired by the head of the Working Group, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandar Vulin. He pointed out that Serbia will continue to manage the migrant crisis responsibly, preserving our way of life and at the same time respecting the rights of migrants.

Vulin added that the problem of irregular migration will exist for a long time and that it will not be solved until there is a single, common solution of the European Union.

Serbia, as he emphasized, did not cause the migrant crisis, nor can it solve the causes of its occurrence, which even much stronger and richer countries than us cannot solve, but it is up to us to continue to source the best solutions for the consequences of this crisis.

Minister Vulin pointed out that the police will continue to carry out regular actions of accommodating migrants in reception centers, where they are provided with health care, adequate accommodation and nutrition.

"Laws are the same for everyone and all migrants residing in Serbia, as well as our citizens, must respect our laws and our country. Serbia will continue with a humane and responsible approach to migrants, but will also ensure the personal and property security of our citizens" , Minister Vulin pointed out and warned that no one should take the law into their own hands.

The Minister also referred to the statements of certain opposition leaders about the alleged settlement of migrants in Serbia, emphasizing that these are absolute lies that are used for political confrontations.

As he emphasized, no migrant has been and will not be settled in Serbia, and our country will continue to responsibly manage the migrant crisis.

The head of the Service for Foreigners of the Border Police Administration, Zorica Vulić, pointed out that Serbia is successfully fighting the criminal acts of illegal crossing of the state border and smuggling of people as a result of irregular migrations.

She stated that the police filed 134 criminal charges against 179 persons suspected of this crime last year, and added that out of that number, 164 persons were convicted in the first instance.

The Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, Vladimir Cucić, pointed out that during the state of emergency, not a single case of coronavirus infection was recorded in reception centers in Serbia.

Cucic also referred to the anti-immigrant mood spread by certain groups and pointed out that at least two false news related to migrants are published on social networks on a daily basis on average.
