The year was marked by an increased influx of migrants from Asia and Africa and the arrival and care of refugees from Ukraine

18.12.2022.

On 18 December, the occasion of International Migrants Day, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration announced that the State of Serbia will continue a responsible and humane treatment of all people in need of our country’s protection and also, that it will not allow violations of the law on its territory for which there is zero tolerance.

In addition to the arrival and care of the Ukrainian refugees in Serbia, 2022 was marked by an increased influx of migrants from Asia and Africa, twice as much as last year.

Despite great challenges, Serbia continued to successfully manage migration and for that received praise in this year's Report of the European Commission on Serbia's Accession to the European Union. From January 2022 until today 116.312 people were received in Centres which is an increase of 101,65 percent.

On this day in 16 Reception and Asylum Centres there are 5.200 migrants including 264 children. Most are from Maroco, Avganistan, Sirija, Burundi and Pakistan.

Regardless of the length of their stay in Serbia, accommodation, food, clothing, medical care, children's inclusion in the education system and more were provided for all of them.

Regarding Ukrainian refugees, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine on 24 February 133.715 Ukrainians have passed through Serbia while today there are 83 located in Vranje Asylum Centre.

The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration would like to thank the Donors primarily the Delegation of the European Union as well as the Government Departments of the Republic of Serbia, and all other partners for their help and support in the work they do.

We would like to thank Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Institute for Public Health "Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut", local Self-Government units, International Organizations, Projects Partners, the Non-Governmental sector, and others involved in migration management in Serbia.

The Commissariat continues to take care of refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia and internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija whom we continue to help with Budget and Donor funds. So far 79 families have been given a roof over their head, and more than 22.580 have been economically empowered.
