Twenty refugee families in Ub receive housing solutions within the RHP subproject five

Twenty refugee families from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, residing in the Ub Municipality received keys to their newly built apartments under the Regional Housing Programme (RHP), subprojct five.
 
Funds for the construction of these 20 apartments in Slobodana Penezica Krcuna 2, in Ub, come from the RHP donor fund, managed by the Council of Europe Development Bank as well as from the municipal budget. RHP fund donated 415,690 euros, while the contribution of the Ub municipality was 14 million dinars. The contractor is GP '' CONSTRUCTOR '' d.o.o. The foundation stone for the construction of the 20 apartments was laid on September 6, 2018.
 
Subproject 5 RHP is worth slightly more than 52 million euros. Of this amount, the approved international donor funds amount to 38.8 million euros, while the Republic of Serbia's contribution amounts to 13.2 million euros. Within the subproject 5, a total of 1 847 housing solutions are allocated: 200 village houses, 1 267 apartment units and 380 packages of building material.


 
The RHP event was attended by Ivica Dacic, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Commission for Coordination of the Process of Permanent Refugee Integration, Vladimir Cucic, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Darko Glisic, Mayor of Ub, H.E. Sem Fabrizi, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, Ivana Nikolic, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dragan Katuca, Director of the Public Sector Project Management Unit, Joseph Mellott, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Violeta Samardzic, UNHCR representative, as well as representatives of other state and international institutions and organizations and beneficiaries.
 
Commissioner Cucic thanked all partners and donors for the support within the Regional Housing Programme which is implemented at its full capacity throughout the Republic of Serbia.
 
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic told the beneficiaries that this day marks a new beginning for them in a safe and peaceful future for which they all work together.
 
“The Republic of Serbia stands firmly on the road to joining the European Union. Donation of funds for the Regional Housing Programme is not only the help of the European Union to Serbia but also the EU’s understanding for our suffering in the war on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, " Dacic said.
 
Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, H.E. Sem Fabrizi addressed the gathering in the name of the largest donor.


 
“The EU is proud to be the biggest donor to the RHP, and will continue supporting the programme until it is successfully completed. We will remain strongly committed to the common EU-Serbia goal of providing durable housing to the remaining refugees from the war in ex-Yugoslavia.” said Ambassador Fabrizi. 

А twelve year old Andrej Nikolic thanked the donors, the Commissariat and the Ub Municipality on behalf of all the refugee families who will from now on have roof over their heads due to the RHP. 



With the ceremonial cutting of ribbon, the dignities marked the official hand over of keys of the 20 newly built apartments and to the beneficiaries.  Afterwards, they visited family Popovic in their new home and participated in a symbolic planting of peony infront of the building in Slobodana Penezica Krcuna 2 in Ub. 





The Regional Housing Programme (RHP) was set up to provide durable housing solutions to vulnerable ref-ugees and displaced persons following the 1991-1995 conflicts on the territory of former Yugoslavia. The RHP is implemented by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia and mostly financed by the international donor community. The main donor is the European Union. The other donors are the United States of America, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Luxembourg, Spain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and the Slovak Republic.
